Peter Moylan will throw a bullpen session next Tuesday for the first time since shoulder surgery in October.

Moylan has been limited to long-tossing until now, but reports that his shoulder feels "amazing." There's no specific timetable for his return.

Phillies recalled LHP Joe Savery from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

He'll take the place of the injured Vance Worley (elbow) on the active roster. Savery, 26, has a 4.50 ERA and 2/2 K/BB ratio over eight innings with the big club this season. Look for him in middle relief.

Kyle Kendrick will start in place of Vance Worley (elbow) Wednesday night against the Cubs.

Worley was placed on the disabled list Wednesday with right elbow inflammation and will miss at least his next couple of turns in the starting rotation. Kendrick has an ugly 7.32 ERA and 12/9 K/BB ratio over 19 2/3 innings this season and can be avoided in fantasy leagues.
May 16 - 11:10 AM

Phillies placed RHP Vance Worley on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 12, with right elbow inflammation.

The severity of the injury isn't yet known, but Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said there should be more information on his status Wednesday. Worley, 24, has a 3.07 ERA and 45/15 K/BB ratio over his first seven starts this season. Kyle Kendrick will take his place in the starting rotation for now.

Carlos Gomez (hamstring) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Wednesday with Class A Wisconsin.

Gomez has been on the 15-day disabled list since May 5 with a strained left hamstring. Barring any setbacks, there's a good chance he'll be able to return when he's first eligible Sunday. The 26-year-old center fielder is hitting .280/.321/.480 with one home run, five RBI and five stolen bases in 21 games this year.

Brewers signed RHP Claudio Vargas to a minor league contract.

Vargas will report to Triple-A Nashville, where he's expected to be used as a starting pitcher. The 33-year-old announced his retirement last summer, only to sign with Vaqueros Laguna of the Mexican League for the 2012 season. He hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2010 as a member of the Brewers and is unlikely to make a major impact.

Jason Bay - OF - Mets

Mets manager Terry Collins indicated Tuesday that Jason Bay (rib) will get his starting left field job back when he returns from the disabled list.

"Absolutely," said Collins. "He didn’t come here to be an extra player." Bay was recently cleared for baseball activities, but is likely about 10 days to two weeks away from coming off the disabled list. We think a platoon with rookie Kirk Nieuwenhuis is inevitable, but the Mets will at least give Bay an opportunity to keep his job. The 33-year-old was hitting .240 with three homers and a .776 OPS over his first 50 at-bats prior to suffering a non-displaced fractured rib on April 23.

Blue Jays sent RHP Trystan Magnuson outright to High-A Dunedin.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster. Magnuson, who was reacquired from the A's last November, has a 4.05 ERA and 5/1 K/BB ratio in 6 2/3 innings at the High-A level this season. The 26-year-old right-hander posted a 6.14 ERA in nine relief appearances with Oakland last year.
